The Municipality of Breza has updated its Operational Plan for sustainable transition for the period 2026 – 2028. The new version builds on the plan developed and adopted by Breza in 2024 for the 2025 –2027 period. It continues to support the municipality’s vision for sustainable transition, while focusing on measures that respond to current local needs and opportunities.
The plan is organised around five key development pathways: decarbonisation, circular economy, pollution reduction, sustainable agriculture, and nature protection and biodiversity. It sets long-term, medium-term and short-term objectives, with each pathway including prioritised measures and estimated costs.
For the 2026–2028 period, the focus is on five measures in several important areas. These include developing a sustainable, safe and decarbonised transport system with accessible infrastructure across the municipality, improving water supply, working with research centres to apply new knowledge and technologies in agriculture, and diversifying and promoting rural activities, including origin tracking and heritage preservation.
“By updating the Operational Plan for 2026–2028, we are continuing our work on Breza’s sustainable transition. The updated plan focuses on five measures in areas that are important for the daily life and future development of Breza, including transport, water supply, agriculture and rural development. We believe these measures provide an important framework for the further development of our community and for creating better living conditions in Breza,” said Vedad Jusić, Mayor of the Municipality of Breza, following the adoption of the plan.
The new version gives Breza a clearer focus for its future work on sustainable transition. The five measures cover areas that are important for the local community, from transport and water supply to agriculture, rural development and the preservation of local heritage. The process also allows the municipality to respond to changing local needs and opportunities while building on the work done so far.
These activities are part of the BiH SuTra project (Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina), implemented by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations (MoFTER BiH) and supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The project supports local governments in developing sustainable transition plans and selected measures in line with applicable legal regulations.
