Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH SuTra) project is expanding its network of partners, strengthening the country’s path toward a just and sustainable transition. At the side event titled “Launch of New Partnerships for Transition”, organized within the Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW 2025), a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with three new local self-government units (LSGUs): Municipality of Gacko, City of Gradiška, and Municipality of Kakanj.

The community came together at Banovići’s Srebrenica Victims Square for the Sustainable Summer Bazaar—a relaxed and cheerful event focused on sharing, reusing, and embracing a more sustainable lifestyle. Organised as part of the BiH SuTra – Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina project, with support from the Municipality of Banovići, Youth Association Baum Banovići and Red Cross Banovići, the bazaar was opened to people of all ages to exchange gently used clothes, books, and toys—showing how simple everyday actions can support a circular economy.

Banovići adopts Operational Plan for Sustainable Transition under BiH SuTra project

The Municipality of Banovići is one of four local self-government units participating in the BiH SuTra project. After a year-long preparatory process, Banovići has officially adopted its Operational Plan for Sustainable Transition, joining Breza, Živinice, and Ugljevik, which finalized their plans last year. The BiH SuTra project is dedicated to driving the sustainable transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on creating and implementing effective measures at the local level. The plan adopted by Banovići aligns with the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and aims to enhance living conditions for citizens in municipalities situated in mining regions.

Ugljevik adopts Operational Plan for Sustainable Transition aligned with EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans

The Municipality of Ugljevik has become the third local self-government unit to adopt an Operational Plan for Sustainable Transition under the BiH SuTra programme, following the Municipality of Breza and the City of Živinice, which finalized their plans earlier this year. This milestone comes after a year-long preparatory phase that included expert discussions and multiple rounds of public consultations. The adopted plan is aligned with the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, aiming to promote a more sustainable society while improving environmental and living conditions in Ugljevik.
