We invite you to the Sustainable Spring Bazaar, a unique event dedicated to promoting eco-conscious fashion, the love of reading, and a responsible approach to children's toys! Join us on Monday, April 28, 2025, in front of the "Filip Višnjić" Cultural Center in Ugljevik, from 11:00 to 14:00, and take part in an inspiring swap event that encourages sustainability and waste reduction.
The bazaar provides the local community with a chance to exchange gently used clothes, books, and toys in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. By giving these items a second life, we not only reduce waste but also support a circular economy. The fashion industry, known for its high resource consumption, can become more sustainable through reuse. Meanwhile, books and toys continue to educate, entertain, and inspire as they find new owners. Spring, a season of renewal and fresh energy, is the perfect time to give pre-loved items a new home through swapping, ensuring they continue to be used and appreciated.
Visitors can bring up to four clean, gently used clothing items (including shoes and accessories) and receive a voucher for each, which can be used for the swap. A similar system applies to books and toys, ensuring everyone can find something new to enjoy. To make the experience even more enjoyable, the bazaar will feature a special corner for children, relaxing music, and free warm drinks and treats.
While swaps are often seen as a way to declutter, they represent much more than that – they are a fun and meaningful alternative to buying new, reducing reliance on fast fashion and excessive consumption. Through the Sustainable Spring Bazaar, we aim to shift perceptions and encourage a more conscious approach to shopping and resource use.
The Sustainable Spring Bazaar is hosted as part of the Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH SuTra) programme, with the support of the Municipality of Ugljevik, Association Korijeni from Ugljevik and Humanitarian Organization of the Municipality of Ugljevik - CK. This event offers residents the chance to exchange clothes, books, and toys, fostering sustainability and waste reduction. Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and implemented by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the BiH SuTra programme aims to enhance the country's capacity to implement environmental and sustainable transition policies at both the national and local levels. Its ultimate goal is to support BiH's sustainable transition and help meet the EU’s long-term sustainability targets.
By bringing the community together, the Sustainable Spring Bazaar provides access to quality items at no cost, raises awareness about environmental responsibility, and fosters a culture of reuse.
We invite you to join us in Ugljevik, take part in this event, and support a more sustainable way of life!
