We are pleased to invite you to the Sustainable Summer Bazaar in Banovići – a unique community event celebrating environmentally conscious fashion, the love of reading, and a responsible approach to children's toys! Join us on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, at Srebrenica Victims Square in Banovići, from 10:00 to 13:00, and take part in an inspiring swap event that promotes sustainability and waste reduction.
The bazaar provides the local community with a chance to exchange gently used clothes, books, and toys in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. By giving these items a second life, we not only reduce waste but also support a circular economy. The fashion industry can become more sustainable through reuse, while books and toys continue to educate, entertain, and inspire as they find new owners. Summer invites us to rethink what we consume and how we share. It’s the perfect time to give away pre-loved items, allowing them to bring joy and purpose to others — all while embracing a more mindful, circular lifestyle.
Visitors may bring a total of up to four clean and well-preserved items — these can include clothing, shoes, accessories, books, or toys. For each item brought, they will receive a token that can be used for the swap. This way, everyone has the chance to find something new for themselves or their loved ones. To make the experience even more enjoyable, the bazaar will feature a special corner for children, relaxing music, beverages and treats.
Despite their potential to reduce waste, clothing swaps are often seen simply as a way to declutter well-preserved but less trendy items — more of an alternative to donation than a genuine substitute for buying new or supporting fast fashion. With the Sustainable Summer Bazaar, we aim to shift this perception and show that swaps are much more than a clean-out solution: they are a fun, conscious, and impactful way to participate in the circular economy. By extending the life of clothing and reducing the demand for new production, swaps promote a more mindful approach to fashion, consumption, and resource use.
The Sustainable Summer Bazaar is hosted as part of the Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH SuTra) project, with the support of the Municipality of Banovići, Youth Association Baum Banovići and Red Cross Banovići . This event offers residents the chance to exchange clothes, books, and toys, fostering sustainability and waste reduction. Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and implemented by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). The BiH SuTra project aims to enhance the country's capacity to implement environmental and sustainable transition policies at the local level.
The Sustainable Summer Bazaar brings together the local community, providing access to quality items at no additional cost and raising awareness of the importance of resource reuse and environmental responsibility.
