The BiH SuTra project is organizing a capacity building workshop in Živinice for representatives of cities and municipalities participating in the project. The workshop aims to support local governments in improving their waste management systems as part of the broader circular transition, focusing on waste prevention, sustainable financing, and the use of data for informed decision-making.

The workshop will be led by Tomas Thernström from the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), an expert in circular economy and waste management with over 15 years of experience. Tomas is a certified waste prevention coach and will guide participants through practical examples, discussions, and local case studies.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore how circular economy principles can be translated into actionable local measures, including:

  • Introduction to circular transition and municipal waste management;
  • Key challenges in the waste management sector in BiH and alignment with EU standards;
  • Full cost recovery, economic instruments, and designing waste fees;
  • Swedish experiences and best practices in applying economic tools for waste management;
  • Using waste data for informed and sustainable decision-making.

The detailed agenda is available here (in the local language).
