We invite you to join us at the Sustainable Winter Bazaar, a unique event dedicated to promoting eco-conscious fashion, the love of reading, and a responsible approach to children's toys!
This event offers the community a chance to freely exchange gently used clothes, books, and toys in a relaxed atmosphere, united by a common goal – reducing waste and fostering a circular economy. The fashion industry, known for its environmental impact and resource depletion, can be transformed by extending the lifespan of clothing items. Books, as sources of knowledge and inspiration, and toys, essential for children’s development, can also find new homes through exchange.
During the bazaar, visitors can bring up to four clean, gently used clothing items (including shoes and accessories) and receive a voucher for each item, which can be used as currency for the swap. Book lovers can also swap books they’ve already read through a “book-for-book” system, and the same system applies to toys. A special face-painting corner will be available for young visitors, and with relaxing music by DJ Memnun Muzaferija, free warm drinks, and treats, the bazaar will provide a welcoming atmosphere and a unique opportunity for all generations to connect.
Despite the positive impact that swaps can have on reducing waste, they are often perceived simply as an opportunity to clear out well-preserved but less trendy clothing – as an alternative to donation, rather than a genuine alternative to buying new items or fast fashion. With the Sustainable Winter Bazaar, we aim to shift this perception and show that swaps can be a fun and meaningful alternative to shopping.
The Sustainable Winter Bazaar is organized within the framework of the Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH SuTra) programme with support from the Municipality of Breza, Center for Positive Practice and Youth Center Desnek, giving residents an opportunity to exchange clothes, books, and toys, promoting sustainability and reducing waste. The BiH SuTra programme is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and implemented by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). BiH SuTra aims to improve the country-wide approach and national and local capacities to implement efficiently and effectively environmental and sustainable transition policies in BiH. The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to the sustainable transition of BiH to achieve the EU’s long-term sustainability goals.
The Sustainable Winter Bazaar brings together the local community, providing access to quality items at no additional cost and raising awareness of the importance of resource reuse and environmental responsibility.
We invite you to join us, participate in this event, and support Breza in promoting a sustainable way of life!
